St. Brigid of Kildare (c. 451-525) was an Irish nun, abbess, and founder of several convents, and (with St. Patrick of Ireland and St. Columba of Iona) is one of the three patron saints of Ireland. Similar to St. Patrick and the shamrock, St. Brigid made a cross from rushes she found on the ground beside a dying man in order to convert him - it is known as the St. Brigid Cross. She also composed the famous “Lake of Beer” poem-prayer: “I would like a great lake of beer for the King of Kings. I would like to be watching Heaven's family drinking it through all eternity.” Her feast day is February 1st. Get into the Habit!
