Act of Contrition

Act of Contrition
(Actus Contritionis)

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they offend you, my God, who are all good, and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.

The Penitential Act (Actus pænitentialis) [New Roman Rite ("Ordinary Form") English Translation]

I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, [And, striking their breast, they say:] through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; [Then they continue:] therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

[The absolution of the Priest follows:] May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.

[The people reply:] Amen.

The Confiteor (Ancient Roman Rite: "Extraordinary Form") [Latin]

Amen.

Indulgentiam, absolutionem, et remissionem peccatorum nostrorm, tribuat nobis omnipotens et misericors Dominus. Amen.
